Peru

Peru, one of my first solo travel destinations. Unique, I encourage you not only go to Lima, the capital,  but  travel throughout the country to appreciate their diversity and rich culture. Home of one of the wonders of the world “Machu Picchu”, a must see!  Also, know for an enormously varied gastronomy reflecting the native heritage, each region in Peru is distinct and each local cuisine adapts to the natural resources available.  My personal favorites are their traditional drink “Pisco Sour” (yummy!), “Ceviche” and  “Papa a la Huancaina” (simply boiled potatoes covered in a spicy cheese sauce.).  Map of Peru

Its official is Spanish. In the zones where they are predominant, Quechua, Aymara and other aboriginal languages also have official status.
